Year 1, Room 2 - ‘Ourselves’
After half term, we started our new topic, ‘Ourselves’. The children have looked at similarities and differences between themselves, have enjoyed Play Based Learning and worked hard on self-portraits. Next week we will be playing 'Guess Who' with our baby photos, trying to work out which child is in each photo! We will also be thinking about how we have changed since the photos were taken.
This week we carried out an investigation into how germs are transferred from one person to another.
We put Vaseline onto the hands of three children, who then covered their hands in green glitter ‘germs’.
Katie then washed her hands in warm water and soap. Kya washed her hands using only cold water and no soap. Anna didn’t wash her hands at all.
Following this, we got each team leader to ‘High 5’ their friends in the line to see how the germs spread. We concluded that the fewest germs were spread by the person who had washed their hands thoroughly using warm water and soap. More germs were transferred by the person who had washed their hands less thoroughly using only cold water. However, most germs were transferred by the person who had not washed their hands at all.
