‘Winter Topic’ in Mrs Callaghan’s Class
We have been thinking about Winter this term.
We have learned about different ways in which animals survive winter: adapting to colder conditions; birds migrating and how some animals hibernate during the winter months.
We made bird seed cake to help feed the birds in the grounds of our school.
We learnt how to use a drawing programme, Sketches School, to follow pictorial instructions on how to draw a bird. More digital art was created as we used the drawing programme 2Paint to create a snowman picture, using the mouse to mark make.
We have also been exploring ways in which we keep warm in winter and experimented with a green screen to create a winter backdrop for our ‘keeping warm’ photos.
We also looked at the change in state from water to ice as the temperature drops.
Our role play area was turned into a winter cottage, with binoculars to go on a bird watching hunt and lots of lovely winter stories to look at. We also played in the Hot Chocolate kiosk and served our friends warm drinks to help the stay warm.
We painted ourselves dressed in winter clothes and designed some lovely winter gloves.
We had fun playing with arctic animals in the water tray and making snowmen with playdough, adding eyes, scarves and arms with other materials.
Have a look at some of the things we got up to.
