Sun Safety in Mrs Callaghan’s Class
19th May 2025
We have been learning about how to keep ourselves safe in the sun, in connection with our topic ‘The Seaside’.
We carried out an investigation to show the importance of using high factor sunscreen.
Mrs Callaghan drew a sun on the back of Jack and Isla’s hands using an invisible security pen that can only be seen with UV light.
Jack then applied hand cream to cover the sun, with no UV protection, while Isla applied SPF 30 cream to cover the sun in her hand.
When we shone UV light, we could clearly see the sun on Jack’s hand, while the sun cream made it difficult to see the sun on Isla’s hand. This showed how the SPF Beachin sun cream protects our skin from the UV sun rays.
