Ramps Investigation in Mrs Callaghan’s Class
We carried out a fair test using a ramp and a toy car in our class today.
We used the same ramp and car, only changing the height of the ramp to see what would happen.
We predicted that the car would travel further if the ramp was higher and were proved correct. We measured the distance travelled when the ramp was raised on two blocks and then on four blocks, using coloured lengths of card. The car travelled 3.5 lengths when the ramp was on two blocks and six lengths when on four blocks.
We then changed the surface it was travelling on, from carpet to the smooth classroom floor.
As predicted, the car travelled faster and further when rolled down the higher ramp over the smoother surface. We learnt about the word ‘friction’ during this investigation.
