Farm to Fork at Tesco, Banbridge. Oct 2016 Mrs Murphy
Year 4 visited Tesco Banbridge this year to participate in their 'Farm to Fork' tour.
We learned about healthy eating including that there is the equivalent of 13 sugar cubes in a bottle of Ribena and 13 1/2 in a bottle of coke! We decided we'd rather stick to water!
We also had a good look at the 'Eatwell Plate' and discussed how much of our energy intake should be carbohydrates, protein, fruit and vegetables and fat/sugar.
We then had a tour of the store and stopped in the Fruit and Veg aisles to investigate different coloured fruit and vegetables including a new fruit called a Granadilla! (FYI its similar to a passion fruit but sweeter.)
Then we visited the cereal aisle and discovered how much sugar is in some of our favourite cereals - we're going to choose weetabix or porridge oats from now on.
Finally, as a special treat for behaving so well, we put on our catering gloves and hats and sugar dusted doughnuts which we were allowed to take home for a after-dinner treat.
We all had a lovely visit to Tesco and learnt a lot. Thanks very much Tesco, Banbridge for having us!
